Replacement
About Replacement
What is the first step in starting a replacement project?
The first step in any project is to call and schedule a free, no pressure estimate. This will take the guesswork out of figuring out how much it will cost or how long it will take. Each product we sell and install has a slightly different cost and lead time. Even if you want to budget for a project 2-3 years in the future it is always good to have a goal that you are working towards.
What forms of payment are accepted?
We accept all major credit/debit cards (Visa, MC, Amex, and Discover), cash, and check. We also offer financing options such as 6 Month Same as Cash and 48 Month loans through our partners at Enerbank.
I’ve scheduled an appointment, now what?
When the design estimator arrives they will first want to determine what is the most important goal you have. Is it to update your home with a new look? Replace windows or doors that don’t operate well anymore? Or just to get a more energy efficient product to make your home more comfortable. The first thing to do is think about what your goals are. Spend a little time exploring our site and our suppliers’ sites to see what really speaks to you. Usually you can expect the appointment to be about an hour long.
I received an estimate for a project and would like to go ahead with it. How do I proceed?
The next step after getting an estimate is to write up and sign a contract for the work to be done. Give your design estimator a call, they will write up the contract with the options you agree on. Once you have signed off either in person or via email we will begin processing the new order.
I just signed a new contract, what comes next?
After signing a contract, one of our contractors will coordinate a time for a final measure. Once the final measure is completed we begin ordering products for your project.
Window Installation
For windows with a nail fin:
Generally speaking, if the old window has a nail fin then the new window should have one too. Installing the new window with the fin is just the beginning. The new window must be properly integrated into the wall structure utilizing multiple sealing layers. A weatherboard system of layering is used during the installation process, which ensures that the harsh winter rains will not be able to penetrate into the walls.
Siding is cut out around the old window exposing the nail fin.
Old window is removed completely and the opening is cleaned.
Interior surrounds are cut back to allow new window to fit properly and sealant is applied behind the nail fin.
New window is installed level, plumb and square.
Flexible flashing is installed over the nail fin in a weatherboard fashion.
Exterior trim is installed prior to final finish caulking and cleaning of the new window.
For older homes with wood windows:
Many older homes with wood windows will be installed using the slope sill box frame method of installation. This method entails removing the movable sash of the old windows and installing the new window within the existing frame of the old window.
Removing the interior stop to enable removal of bottom sash.
Taking out parting bead which allows top sash to be removed.
Installation of new window working around obstacles.
Removing bottom sash after disconnecting weights.
Back bed of caulking after sash is removed and opening cleaned.
Final finish caulking on interior and exterior.
